Fermanagh and Omagh District Council employee, Tracey McCallan, was recently awarded Local Government Employee of the Year.

The Local Government Employee of the Year award, sponsored by the William Johnston Memorial Trust, recognises individuals who through their enthusiasm, activities, innovation and commitment, have made a commendable contribution to the performance of the Council.

Tracey – Audience Development and Marketing Manager – supports the Community and Wellbeing Directorate and provides strategic and operational leadership within the Directorate and across other Directorates for a variety of projects.

During the last two years, Tracey has led the development and planning of two strategic development projects: the Ardhowen redevelopment and the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum redevelopment.

Both multi-million pound projects will contribute to positive experiences for residents and visitors for many years to come and Tracey has successfully brought together various Council officers and external partners to progress these.

Tracey also worked with the Economic Development Team to assist in the town centre recovery programmes in both Enniskillen and Omagh following the Covid-19 pandemic which included support programmes and capital projects benefitting both towns.

She has continued to work on revitalisation to enhance urban spaces, including an Urban Garden in Omagh, heritage-led enhancement in the Buttermarket, Enniskillen, and improving connections to the retail core in both towns.

Tracey devised and delivered two projects to celebrate and showcase the unique heritage of the district, including the Omagh Heritage Music Trail and a public art programme featuring sculpture, art and words on the pavements in Enniskillen.

Speaking about Tracey’s recognition, and on her being awarded the prestigious title on Friday, March 24, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff, said: “On behalf of the Council, I would like to heartily congratulate Tracey on winning this award.

“This is a significant achievement. I am delighted that Tracey’s years of commitment and her contribution to the Council has been recognised.

“Tracey brings strong leadership, creativity and drive to all aspects of her work to successfully deliver key projects. At the heart of her work is encouragement and empowerment of others.”

The Council’s Chief Executive, Alison McCullagh, also said: “Everyone at Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is well aware of Tracey’s commitment, drive and talents, and this award is entirely deserved.

“On behalf of everyone from the Council and our district, I want to congratulate Tracey on this fantastic achievement, and recognition of her hard work over the past number of years in particular.”

The award was presented to Tracey by Sandra Pollock, Vice-Chair of the William Johnston Memorial Trust, and the Chair of Northern Ireland Local Government Association, Councillor Martin Kearney.
