A Bundoran man has been handed penalty points and a fine after he was detected by police speeding through a Co. Fermanagh village.
At 4pm on December 5, 2022, police were on patrol in Kesh when they observed a lorry with a trailer travelling in the direction of Enniskillen.
It was the speed of the lorry which attracted police attention, Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday.
They pulled out and followed the lorry for 0.3 miles at a speed of 67mph. The speed restriction of the lorry – being driven by Shane Gary Carey (43), of Marine Court, Bundoran, Co. Donegal – was 40mph.
Police indicated for Carey to stop, and he did so at the Killadeas Road, where he was spoken to by police, the court heard. Carey’s solicitor, Myles McManus, told the court the high speed was accepted, and his client entered a guilty plea at the first opportunity.
Carey was also charged with failing to produce his driving licence, with McManus explaining his client instructed him that he misplaced it and by the time he had got a replacement licence, he had ran out of time to produce it.
For failing to produce his driving licence and excess speed for a vehicle classification, Carey received three penalty points and £300 in fines.
