A Fermanagh man facing terrorism charges has been returned to the Crown Court for arraignment.

Gabriel Meehan (42), originally from Fermanagh but now with an address of Meelmore Drive, Omagh, is facing a charge of possessing articles for use in terrorism and collecting or making a record of information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

The relate to incidents between March 15, 2021 and May 7, 2021. Meehan is charged with possessing images of an improvised firearm, Enniskillen Police Station and the surrounding area and maps, in circumstances which gave rise to a reasonable suspicion that the possession was for a purpose connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.

He is also charged with having a handwritten note containing the vehicle details of a serving member of the British Army.

A barrister for the Public Prosecution Service said there was a prima facie case for Meehan to answer, with District Judge Alana McSorley agreeing.

Meehan’s barrister, Joe Brolly, said they did not accept there was a case to answer, but would leave it with the court, without prejudice, to mount a challenge in the Crown Court.

The case was adjourned to be heard again at Dungannon Crown Court on June 13.
