People across Northern Ireland will be heading to the polls this morning (Thursday, May 16), including here in Fermanagh.

The polls opened at 7am and close at 10pm tonight, with your designated polling station listed on your poll card.

Remember that you’ll need to take photo ID with you to vote at the polling station.

Local council elections in Northern Ireland use the single transferable vote system.Your ballot paper will list the names and political parties of the candidates in your area.

You put a ‘1’ in the box next to your first choice candidate, a ‘2’ next to your second choice, a ‘3’ next to your third choice, and so forth.

It is important to check and follow the instructions on your ballot paper.

Some 37 candidates have put their name forward for election in the four wards based in Fermanagh.

Out of those 37 people, only 22 will be elected to the Council after today’s elections.

Votes will be counted at Omagh Leisure Centre from Friday morning, before pausing overnight to resume on Saturday morning.

The Impartial Reporter will be covering all of the action live from the count centre as Fermanagh and Omagh people decide who will represent them at a local government level.

Follow our website and social media pages for live updates from the count, and be the first to know who will be representing you.
