Police in Fermanagh have started an investigation into criminal damage after the rear window of an Education Authority (EA) transport van was smashed whilst parked in the grounds of a school last weekend.

The PSNI are appealing to the public for information relating to the incident which is alleged to have occurred between the afternoons of Friday, May 26 and Sunday, May 28 at the former Shanmullagh Primary School site, Lettermoney Road, Enniskillen.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Criminal damage was caused to the rear window of a school transport van; the window had been smashed whilst parked within the grounds of the school."

This newspaper reached out to the EA regarding the incident. An EA spokesperson said: "The EA can confirm that criminal damage was caused to an EA-operated vehicle.

"No services have been impacted by this incident."

When asked how much it will cost to repair the damage, the EA spokesperson responded: "The EA await the outcome of the investigation and final assessment of the damage caused to ascertain the cost of repairs.

"Due to the ongoing investigation, EA are unable to comment further at this time."

Appealing for information, the PSNI spokesperson added: "If anyone has seen anything suspicious during this time period on the Lettermoney Road, please contact the police at 101, quoting reference 388 of the 30/05/2023, or Crimestoppers."
