Despite the temperamental weather at this time of year, the Bellananeck Blue Grass charity fundraiser held at The Moorings restaurant recently was a smash-hit success.

Held in memory of the late John Watson, the ‘Blue grass on the Lakelands’ event on May 20 featured a stellar set from Drogheda band The Watery Hill Boys, who played to a very appreciative audience who had come from near and far, including from as far away as England.

It was all in memory of the late John Watson, who passed away last May, 2022, and who received superb care at the South West Acute Hospital (SWAH).

Held in John’s memory, and as a reflection of his love for music – as well as how much he liked The Moorings – the Blue Grass event proved so popular, several of those attending have asked if the event will be a recurring one.

Speaking to this paper, John’s widow, Hilda, was delighted with how well the charity fundraiser had gone. She said: “It was a resounding success! I couldn’t believe how many people came along. It was very atmospheric, and we had a great night.”

Praising The Moorings for a very well run event, and adding “supper was brilliant”, Hilda also praised the bank’s first-class music, and thanked everyone who had come along, along with everyone who had supported the event or donated to the fundraiser.

At the time of writing, Hilda revealed the event has, to date, “raised over £2,200”, with a final tally soon to be confirmed.

The funds will be presented to help support palliative care at the SWAH, and the vital work provided by the palliative care staff at the vital Enniskillen-based facility.
