A man has been banned for 12 months from driving after he was convicted of drink driving.

It was heard at Enniskillen Magistrates Court that police received a report of a suspected drink driver on April 10, 2023.

The report stated the driver was travelling along the Belfast Road towards Enniskillen.

At 6.10pm officers observed the suspected vehicle, a BMW, heading in the direction of Enniskillen and they followed it until it stopped on the Wellington Road.

The driver, Derek Arthur Frederick McCordick (40), of Coolcullen Meadow, Enniskillen, got out of the car and police spoke to him and detected a strong smell of alcohol.

McCordick failed a preliminary breath test and was arrested. In custody he gave an evidential reading of 43mg of alcohol in 100ml of alcohol.

His solicitor, Michael Fahy, said it was a very low reading and that his client had a single beer at lunch time, and somebody reported him.

He said there was nothing adverse about McCordick's driving adding that the loss of the driving licence would present "immeasurable difficulties" for McCordick who was the sole carer for his son.

For the driving with excess charge, McCordick received a one-year disqualification and £250 fine.
