NEW SPORTS GROUND

A sports ground for Enniskillen is the latest proposal.

It is hoped by the Fermanagh Farming Society to procure a ground suitable for its annual shows and to fence round same.

This ground would then be let out for football and other sports purposes, and there would also be two or three grass tennis courts, which are badly needed in Enniskillen.

Many prominent people in the county are behind the project, and also much support has been forthcoming for the suggestion to have the tennis courts in addition to the sports field.

There are no grass tennis courts in Enniskillen, though the Golf Club had every facility for providing this want.

RECKLESS MOTORING

Notwithstanding all the warnings given from the Bench and the Press, some motorists rush at reckless speed through Enniskillen streets, notably the motor cyclists, who seem to have escaped with impunity.

The magistrates at last Enniskillen Petty Sessions, who practically formed a jury, imposed fines of 20s on some offenders, those defendants narrowly escaping a 40s fine.

Our doctors, our clergy, our merchants, our solicitors, our county gentry, drive their cars at an exemplary slow speed through the streets, but others come with recklessness, endangering life and limb, and with strangers rushing on to Bundoran or elsewhere during the summer, the dangers are increased.

The warning notice boards of the Automobile Association to go SLOW THROUGH ENNISKILLEN are unheeded, and there is only one way of dealing with these offenders, drastic fines or imprisonment.

Warnings have failed, and when fines have to be imposed, it has to be remembered that a fine of 20s or 40s is comparatively small to a man who can spend £300 or £400 on a motor car, and may be no more than one shilling on a poor man.

The public safety is the first consideration.
