A rescue dog that was taken in by Bright Eyes Animal Sanctuary has now been rehomed after an urgent appeal was shared by hundreds of people on social media, including Enniskillen actor Ciarán McMenamin.

The Fermanagh-based animal sanctuary put a post on their Facebook page in April of this year, urgently appealing to anyone who would be able to rehome Sid – a Saluki cross with separation anxiety, that desperately needed a loving 'forever home'.

The appeal was shared over 1,000 times on Facebook and was reported by media outlets including this newspaper.

Sid was rescued by Bright Eyes after he was found wandering in Kesh, Co. Fermanagh.

"He had a rope around his neck and was very underweight," said a spokesperson for the animal sanctuary, noting that Sid then went to a foster family for a while: "But when he came back to us to be rehomed, we soon became aware that he had very severe separation anxiety.

"It was heartbreaking to see our lovely boy suffering so much. We did a massive appeal on social media and everyone got behind Sid including the actor Ciarán McMenamin who is from Enniskillen himself."

Fortunately the urgent appeal was a success and Sid has now been happily rehomed.

"Thankfully a wonderful family has came forward and met Sid and of course fell in love with him," said the spokesperson, explaining that after the family showed their interest in rehoming Sid, Bright Eyes started the application process.

"We did the home check and they provided a vet reference which was all perfect. Our volunteers brought Sid to his new home on May 1 for a trial and we are delighted to announce that Sid has now been adopted by them.

"At Bright Eyes we always believe there is a home for every animal... it's just for us to find it. Sometimes it takes a while but we always get there in the," said the Bright Eyes Animal Sanctuary spokesperson.
