National Lottery funding has been awarded to a number of local groups to strengthen communities as part of a Northern Ireland-wide announcement of nearly £10m in funding.

More than 300 grants ranging from £600 to more than £500,000 are going to every council area across the province.

Groups benefitting from local funding supports include the Erne District Chinese Families and Friends Association, based in Enniskillen, which has received a £10,000 grant to organise cultural celebration events and outings.

Lower Erne Community First Responders received a £10,000 grant to provide life-saving equipment for volunteers so they can respond to emergencies in their area and assist the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

Lakeland Community Care are using a £10,000 grant to run a summer scheme in Belcoo and Derrygonnelly for children and young people to have fun together, learn new skills and attend day trips.

Also receiving funding is Fermanagh Rural Community Initiative, based in Enniskillen. They are using a £10,000 grant to support international newcomers and refugees to improve their English language skills.
