A reception marking the presentation of 50 ‘Spirit of Enniskillen’ Bursaries to successful candidates in the 1993 Projects, including a number of recipients from the county, was held on Tuesday evening at Belfast Castle.

The young people, 16 to 19-year-olds, selected from all over the Province, will be travelling during July and August to projects in Latvia, Germany, Israel and the USA.

According to a spokesman from the Youth Council for Northern Ireland, the projects enable young people from the province to experience how other communities from diverse backgrounds are dealing with differences and sometimes conflict of their own, “thereby helping participants to broaden their perspective on community conflict”.

Mr. David Clarke (right), of Fermanagh District Council, who will act as a group co-ordinator for a Washington State project in this year’s Spirit of Enniskillen Bursary Scheme, is pictured with several local young people who were awarded Bursaries.

Also in the photograph are (from left) Janice Loane, Kesh; Aaron Duffy, Bellanaleck; Thomas Killen, Enniskillen and Diane Johnston, Fivemiletown.

Missing from the picture are Imelda O’Hare, Lisnaskea; and Olivia McGuinness, Garrison.
