The ‘Transformers’ crashlanded to Earth last week, just in time to take part in the annual Lady of the Lake Festival’s Fancy Dress Parade.

Thousands of people lined the pavements of Irvinestown main street last Thursday evening (July 13) to see the parade as more than 200 participants of all ages, who were dressed up as their favourite characters, travelled through the town.

Costumes ranged from spectacular DIY Transformers-themed creations to Disney princesses.

The parade was led by Ballinamallard Accordion Band, who according to one of the fancy dress organisers, Joe Mahon, “saved the day” after two other bands cancelled at the last minute.

The band was followed by a horse and cart with this year’s Lady of the Lake, Holly Baird, aboard a giant Spider-Elephant which had travelled all the way from Cork to participate in the parade, and a convoy of eight yellow Bumblebee ‘Transformer’ cars.

There was also a selection of creative floats on parade, including one from The Arc Healthy Living Centre, and Kevin Leonard Vets.

The town was buzzing despite the damp weather, with Castlederg band The Senators providing entertainment on the street throughout the evening.
