A man who was visiting friends in Fermanagh over the Christmas period has been convicted of assaulting two police officers who were called out to an address he was at.

On December 27, 2022, just before 2am police were called to an address at Killadeas Road, Enniskillen, Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday.

At the address they asked Patrick Joseph Campbell (27), of Carlisle Parade, Belfast, to leave the property.

During this, when he was less than one metre from an officer, Campbell lunged and attempted to headbutt the officer, who had to take evasive action to avoid being hit, the court heard.

When he was being handcuffed, Campbell kicked out at another officer, and when he was put in the cell van and the door was being closed, he again kicked out at officers.

Campbell’s solicitor, Garry Smyth, told the court the defendant had been socialising with friends when a situation developed and the police were called.

He said it was quite evident a lot of alcohol was involved, and Campbell regretted that and his behaviour.

Mr. Smyth added that Campbell’s actions were attempts rather than actual contact, which was fortunate on his part. He also said Campbell had no previous record and there had been no subsequent incidents since.

For two charges of assault on police, Campbell was fined a total of £300.
