A new McDonald’s restaurant in Enniskillen moved one step closer to reality after Fermanagh and Omagh District Council officials recommended plans be approved.

The site located at the former TP Topping car dealership on Dublin Road, Enniskillen is set to be determined by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Planning Committee tomorrow, Wednesday, July 19.

Having originally submitted a planning application in June, 2021, the project team supporting the application has worked constructively with the Council and statutory consultees over the last two years to ensure concerns have been addressed and the proposals align with planning policy.

The proposed development entails a modern freestanding single-storey McDonald’s restaurant with drive-thru, car parking, landscaping and associated works, including customer order displays.

The entire development will occupy a space of 371sq m and feature 76 covers for diners to enjoy their meals within a relaxed, modern environment.

Additionally, 35 car parking spaces will be provided (including two accessible) and six dedicated cycle spaces.

If approved, the intention is to relocate the current restaurant at Cathcart Square (adjacent to the proposed site) and bring both existing and new staff to the new purpose-built facility.

The new restaurant would support around 120 full-and part-time jobs, including 68 crew members currently employed at the Cathcart Square facility.

The proposals will also see significant inward investment of around £4million into the local area.

A dedicated Facebook page was created for the project, which received substantial support, with approximately 262 local residents signing their support.

Commenting on the proposals, Aisling Lawless, Senior Estates Surveyor at McDonald’s said: “We are thrilled that our proposals for a new McDonald’s restaurant in Enniskillen have been recommended for approval.

“We’ve long held aspirations for the site, and we are confident that the new restaurant will be a welcome addition to the town.

"We are passionate about creating a modern and inviting space for our customers to enjoy their meals, and we look forward to bringing both existing and new staff to the new restaurant.

“Fermanagh remains a key area for our growth ambitions, and we are committed to investing in Northern Ireland.

"By focusing on securing this site, we aim to keep trips within the town centre and ensure that our investment remains within the community.

“We hope that councillors uphold the recommendation and consent our application.”

If consented, it is anticipated that construction work would begin later this year, with the new restaurant welcoming customers in September, 2024.
