A “tremendous” show was how many judges, exhibitors and spectators described the first Fermanagh County Show held at the Castle Irvine Estate, Necarne, Irvinestown last weekend.

Despite changeable weather conditions, the crowds came in their thousands and many of the livestock exhibitors travelled long distances to showcase their stock and compete for some of the lucrative prize money

on offer.

Some of the livestock judges also travelled long distances to make their decisions.

One of them was Iain Greene, from the Corskie Pedigree Simmental herd in Morayshire, Scotland, who was judging the Continental breeds.

He is well-qualified to judge, managing a 200-cow pedigree herd of Simmental cows as well as several hundred crossbred sucklers, alongside about 3,000 acres of arable land with a large acreage of barley grown for local whisky distilleries.

Iain has judged at the prestigious Stirling bull sales, the Royal Highland Show, the Royal Welsh Show and the Balmoral Show.

He said he was delighted to be in Fermanagh to see such wonderful stock and was returning home after meeting up with so many passionate cattle breeders.

Another household name in the cattle world is Harry Emslie, who judged the commercial cattle classes and the pedigree beef interbreed championship.

He described the standard of cattle in front of him as being as high as he has seen this year.

He gave the Pedigree Beef Interbreed Championship to Connor Mulholland for his outstanding Limousin heifer, Deerpark Shakira.
