A-Level students across the district received their results last Thursday (August 17), marking the start of the next stage of their lives as they go on to higher education, university, travel or work.

This year was the second-time that students have undertaken summer exams marked and graded by exam boards since 2019. Published by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), the provisional figures show that 37.5 per cent of students received a grade A or above, which reflect the continued return to pre-pandemic grading.

Principal Gary Kelly is "delighted" to extend his congratulations to all Year 14 students on their A-Level results.

He said: "Your hard work and commitment have been truly impressive, and it is clear that these results are a testament to your dedication and perseverance. At St. Joseph’s College, Principal Helena Palmer commented on the "excellent" set of A-Level results that Year 14 students achieved this year.

Mrs. Palmer said: "We’ve seen really positive results this year which I think reflects the determination of our young men and the hard work of both their teachers and their parents and carers. They have worked incredibly hard in their studies and this has been reflected in the grades they have deservedly achieved. I am just so proud of them all.”

She added: “It’s always a big day for everyone collecting their A-Level results and this year there was a wonderful atmosphere around the school when the boys came in to collect their results. We wish our young men all the very best as they move onto the next chapter of their educational lives.”

“The staff in St. Fanchea’s College are delighted with the results achieved by our Post 16 pupils," said Principal Maurice Collins regarding his student's A-Level results.

He added: "Despite the many challenges faced by [students] over the past number of years, we are confident that our Post 16 [students] have achieved their full potential across a range of A-Level and other BTEC Level 3 courses at both AS and A2 Level.

"The results achieved are a true reflection of the hard work, resilience and commitment of the girls, the dedication and inspiration of our staff, and the continued support and encouragement of parents/carers. "Everyone at St. Michael’s is absolutely delighted with the results achieved by our students," said Principal Mark Henry, describing the Year 14 student's A-Level results as "outstanding", with 50 per cent of all grades awarded an A* or A.

"I am delighted that the vast majority of the boys have been placed in their chosen course at University, with many having secured places at some of the most prestigious universities in the UK and in Ireland. We wish them all continued success with their studies," he said, adding: "I would like to thank the parents for all their support and our outstanding team of teachers for all their hard work in preparing the boys for their examinations."

Principal Janice Allen said: "Fivemiletown College is once again delighted with an outstanding set of A-Level results.

"All Year 14 [students] progressing on to universities have secured their first preference places with a number opting for Higher Level apprenticeships in areas such as accountancy and engineering.

"A fantastic achievement reflecting the hard work and dedication of [students], underpinned by unwavering support and guidance from staff and parents.

"We wish all our leavers every success as they embark on the next stage of their journey," she added.

Hundreds of Level 3 extended diploma learners from the South West College (SWC) Omagh, Dungannon, and Enniskillen campuses collected their results, with many students achieving the equivalent of three A* grades.

South West College Principal and Chief Executive Celine McCartan said: "All students are to be congratulated as they all worked extremely hard throughout the year, and I am delighted that all their hard work has paid off. We wish them every success in their future studies and careers.”

"Results day for the A-Level class of 2023 at Enniskillen Royal Grammar School brought much cause for celebration," said Principal Elizabeth Armstrong, noting how 77 per cent of all grades at A2 were A*-B and eighty- five percent of students recorded three grades A*-C.

"28 students had three grade A passes or better in their portfolio while over a quarter of students had at least one A*. These excellent results opened the doors to pathways as diverse as Actuarial Science at Heriot Watt, International Relations with Chinese at Exeter, Law at Royal Holloway, London, Psychology at Cardiff, Mechatronic Engineering at Ulster, Economics and Business Management at Newcastle and Broadcast Production, Medicine and Software Engineering at Queens, Belfast," said Miss Armstrong.

Principal Sinead Cullen commented: "Once again, the Year 14 students of Mount Lourdes have produced an outstanding and impressive set of A-Level results. Staff at Devenish College are once again "delighted" to record a "very pleasing" set of results.

Principal Simon Mowbray noted: “Our students have worked extremely hard over the last two years and should feel very proud of their dedication to their studies and their subsequent achievements. These results reflect the exceptional dedication, expertise and commitment of our staff and the significant support provided by their parents.

"Some very notable performances at A level includes Joel Foster A*A*B, Ethan Malone A*AA, Aimee Knox AAA, Amy Thompson AAA, Connie Carson A*BB, Matthew Graham AAB, Ellie McDonald A*BB, Nia Robinson AAB, Holly Bullock ABB, Ashlyn Martin ABB and Joe Hamilton A*BC. We were also thrilled with the many other pupils who also excelled.

At Castlederg High School, incoming Principal Sandra Cashel congratulated Sixth Form students on their excellent A-Level, AS and BTEC performances.

At Erne Integrated College there were lots of happy faces when this summer’s A-Level results were collected last week.

"We are delighted with our students results, which are the culmination of two years of dedication, hard work and commitment, reflected in an overall pass rate of 98 per cent. This cohort have had a unique and challenging pathway, both through GCSEs and A-Level, because of the impact of Covid on their learning and examination experiences. It is wonderful to see them succeed and now move on to degree courses at the university of their choice, to SWC for Foundation Degrees or to their Gap Year," said Vice Principal Sharon McKee, adding: "The top three students are Ilyana Lyubomirova (A*, 3As), Eamon Maguire (A*, 2As, B) and Abigail Farrelly (A*, 2As) who are heading to Queens (Architecture), Queens (Chemistry) and Bristol (Occupational Therapy).

"We wish each of our students every success, wherever they go and we look forward to welcoming back our Year 13s who also performed well in their AS examinations."
