A CAVAN man who was caught drink-driving on the Marble Arch Road at the weekend has been disqualified from driving for a year.
Frank McGoldrick (63), with an address at Bawnboy, Cavan, was sentenced at Enniskillen Magistrate's Court on Monday, February 12.
A prosecutor told the court how on Sunday, February 11, police on mobile patrol on the Marble Arch Road stopped McGoldrick, who was the driver of a car.
Police carried out a preliminary breath test, which returned a reading of 91 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
McGoldrick told police that he had been out for a meal and had consumed "one pint" of beer over an hour previously.
McGoldrick's solicitor, Ronan McCourt, said that this was the first time his client had been before the court, at the age of 63.
He added that McGoldrick has consumed a pint of beer with his meal, but added that he had been drinking the night before, which may have contributed to the high reading.
Deputy District Judge Archer said he was prepared to offer McGoldrick credit for his early plea of guilty, and his clear record.
Judge Archer imposed a driving disqualification of one year, with the option to reduce this by three months, pending successful completion of a drink-driving course.
A fine of £300 was also imposed.
