The lives of Troubles victims from right across Northern Ireland will be remembered this weekend in a temporary exhibition held in Enniskillen.

Each handcrafted patch on the memorial quilt remembers the life of a victim of The Troubles, with their name displayed and a patch personalised to remember their interests.

County Fermanagh victims’ group, South East Fermanagh Foundation (SEFF), will display their memorial quilts as part of an exhibition held in Fermanagh County Museum from 10am on Thursday, February 22 until 5pm on Thursday, March 7.

SEFF’s Director, Kenny Donaldson, explains: “Across the memorial quilts which will be displayed, innocents are remembered, ordinary yet extraordinary men, women and children from across the community and who were murdered or killed in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Great Britain.

“The key messages of the memorial quilts are violence was futile and totally unjustified. Those remembered are wholly innocent and the legacy of those represented will live on amongst those left behind.”

The group are welcoming visitors from schools, community groups, the faith community and others from across the community to visit the exhibition, which will be staffed by SEFF personnel.

Mr. Donaldson added: “SEFF’s roots are in south Fermanagh, so in many ways we’re bringing this exhibition home in holding it in the impressive Fermanagh County Museum.

“A range of events will take place over the course of the two-week period, including an engagement event where local schools will send pupils to engage with victims, and survivors who will share their direct experiences of terror and violence.”

Those wishing to bring a group of people are asked to contact SEFF to make arrangements via info@seff.org.uk.

The exhibition will be officially opened on Friday at 6.30pm by former BBC journalist, Mark Devenport, who spent more than three decades reporting on The Troubles and the Peace Process in Northern Ireland.

As Ireland Correspondent during the 1990s, he covered the paramilitary ceasefires, the Good Friday Agreement, and the Omagh Bombing.

Mr. Devenport continues to work as a commentator and journalist for many broadcast, print and online media outlets.

As NI Political Editor for nearly 20 years, he reported on the power-sharing deal between the DUP and Sinn Féin and the chequered history of the Stormont Executive.
