Fermanagh and Omagh District Council are to meet BT as a Council delegation later this week with one local councillor saying he has not given up on a positive outcome for the site,

Alliance Party councillor Eddie Roofe who represents the Enniskillen DEA is looking for a positive outcome for workers.

BT Group may close its EE (formally BT) office site that employs hundreds of across the local community.  However, BT Group said no decision was made on the future of Enniskillen and staff are being offered a voluntary leavers package

He said: "We are meeting BT this Friday as a council. I've spoken to multiple business owners in the town regarding various solutions and tactics to support the workers. I haven't given up on a positive outcome for the site and I'm trying to go down any and all avenues to do so.

This meeting follows a series of representations from FODC, Councillor Roofe explained some of the interventions taken:  "On Friday, myself, the Chief Executive [Alison McCullagh]  and a few other councillors met the Chief Executive and senior team of Invest NI, following my request to meet them.

"I have to say that was quite a positive meeting and we left the meeting satisfied that they are certainly trying to be proactive in their approach to BT and their goal is to try and secure these jobs for Enniskillen."

He added that he and colleagues in the Alliance party have been working on this issue: "We've been quite busy regarding BT.

"Myself and Sorcha Eastwood [Alliance MLA for  Lagan Valley] met the CWU last Tuesday to discuss ways forward and how we could help.

"I have been very appreciative of my party's stance on this and these jobs have been discussed at the highest level repeatedly."
