Local politicians are seeking answers from BT on the future of the Enniskillen site, which hosts the EE Call Centre.

Numerous issues have been raised by the public representatives, including the lack of clarity on the future of the building, and the anxiety that the news has caused for workers at the Enniskillen site.

Áine Murphy, Sinn Féin MLA for Fermanagh South Tyrone, said her party engaged with BT last week.

“As recently as last Wednesday, both Jemma Dolan MLA and I engaged with BT and took the opportunity to highlight the devastating impact that possible job losses would have not only on Enniskillen, but the county of Fermanagh, as well as the lack of clarity and loyalty shown by BT to their workforce in Enniskillen.

“The priority now must be to do everything possible to ensure BT protect jobs and support workers.

"This will remain our focus in the time ahead, and we will continue to work closely with the Communication Workers Union.”

It was announced in February that the BT Group may close its EE (formally BT) office site that employs hundreds of people across the local community.

However, BT Group said no decision was made on the future of Enniskillen, and staff are being offered a voluntary leavers package.

Fermanagh South Tyrone Democratic Unionist Party MLA Deborah Erskine has stressed that the announcement from BT has left a “huge amount of anxiety among employees, the business community and indeed the wider community across Fermanagh South Tyrone".

She added: “I have been pressing BT for a meeting and have done so yet again this week.

“Unfortunately, so far they have decided not to meet until after the deadline for choosing their package offered to employees. For me, this is wholly unacceptable.

“Employees have been left in the lurch, and whilst BT have said no decision has been made, it’s of little comfort to many.

"I will keep fighting in this window to save jobs, and I have been pressing Ministers on this also.”

Ulster Unionist MLA for Fermanagh South Tyrone Tom Elliott hit out at the lack of clarity on the next stage for employees if they do not take the voluntary leavers package.

He said: “It is unfair that the EE management have provided a voluntary leavers package to staff, and given them a date to respond, but haven’t provided them with any information as to the next stage for those who do not accept the package.

"I have asked EE management this question, but they haven’t given me an answer.”

He added that he is pressing the Economy Minister Conor Murphy for an update.

“I have spoken to the Minister of the Economy yesterday seeking an update from him. He had no further information from his officials' meeting with EE management.”

Expressing his disappointment in the lack of clarity from EE/BT, Mr. Elliott said: “It is disappointing that EE/BT management are not being more open about their process and future intentions, particularly given the very loyal workforce in Enniskillen.”
