A LISNASKEA woman who assaulted a police constable has 82 previous convictions, a court has heard.

The case of Nichola Philomena Leonard (32) of Trasna Way, Lisnaskea was discussed on Monday, March 4.

Leonard had pleaded guilty to assaulting a male police constable on October 4 of last year, while a further charge of stealing items worth a total of £350 on the same date had been withdrawn.

Defence barrister, Alan Blackburn, said Leonard had a "substantial record" with a total of 82 previous convictions.

Mr Blackburn said that at the time of the incident, Leonard was serving a suspended sentence for common assault, which had been imposed in October 2020.

She only had 16 days left of this sentence when the offending occurred, Mr Blackburn told the court.

"The suspended sentence had almost expired," the barrister said, added Leonard understood that her "liberty is at risk".

Mr Blackburn said that on the day of the incident, Leonard had been "falsely accused of theft".

District judge Alana McSorley adjourned the case until April 17 to allow for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
