For more than a year, the South West Acute Hospital (SWAH) All Party Group has been focusing on the importance of quality medical education.

MLAs had the opportunity to visit the Medical Education Centre at the group's recent meeting.

They listened to students and faculty members providing education and training, including surgical training and feedback from Queen's University and University of Ulster.

MLAs were given insight into the Medical and Dental Education and Training provided by the faculty through MedEdWest.

Sinead Doherty, head of Medical and Dental Education and Training, said: "We value and recognise the significant contributions made by facilitators and staff to deliver high quality medical education and training, especially during this major change process for Medical Education.

"The release of our academic report provides us with an opportunity to raise awareness of the great work delivered every day across the Trust."

"The report underlines our focus on the value of medical education to medical and physician associate students, doctors in training and all medical staff in the Trust and definitely promotes “West is Best”."

Dr Tom Frawley, chair of the Western Trust Board, highlighted the work done by the MedEdWest Team following the release of the Medical and Dental Education and Training Academic Report in 2023.

He said: “I write to convey the Board’s congratulations to you and all the Team on the very high standard of training delivered, the level of innovation and creative solutions identified and acknowledge the positive feedback the Western Trust is receiving.

"None of this would be possible without the commitment, professionalism and dedication of all the MedEdWest Team and on behalf of the Board I want to thank you sincerely.”
