A leadership training session in Fermanagh and Omagh was recently held to boost the community and voluntary sector.

The Investing in Community Leadership Programme staged the one-day course for leaders in the sector which emphasised the role of leadership in fostering collaboration, innovation, and societal impact.

Participants from organisations in the area delved into various principles and practical applications.

Sonya Johnston, deputy director of Fermanagh Trust, said: "The Investing in Community Leadership Programme recognises the unique challenges faced by leaders in the voluntary and community sectors.

"This was a chance for participants to reflect on their personal leadership style and recognise the difference in leading volunteers rather than managing people in paid positions.

"Our goal is to empower these leaders with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to drive positive change within their organisations and their communities."

The course included understanding leadership characteristics, mastering efficient communication, and building trust.

Trainees also had the chance to participate in discussions, exchange experiences, and explore potential collaborations.

One participant said: "As leaders, we must empower those around us to navigate challenges and seize opportunities.

"This training has given me valuable insights and practical strategies to enhance my leadership approach."

The programme, launched in January 2021, also provides new and specific qualifications to the next generation of leaders.
