One of Lisnaskea’s oldest residents has died.

The late Emily Kathleen Harvey (102), known to many as 'Kay', died peacefully on March 26. Mrs. Harvey, née McClelland, would have turned 103 on October 1.

A resident of Gortacharn Nursing Home, it was there where she marked her milestone 100th birthday with family and friends back in 2021, and it was also there where she passed away peacefully.

Mrs. Harvey was laid to rest on Thursday, March 28 at Holy Trinity Parish Church, Lisnaskea following her funeral service.

Her family - children Ken, Shirley and Garry - will remember their mother as a "legend" and say they have "treasured memories" of their mum.

Mrs. Harvey was born to Samuel and Elizabeth McClelland on October 1, 1921, at Drumaraght, Lisnaskea. She was one of five children.

She grew up in a farming family and went to school at Stranafeley, Lisnaskea. Following her education, she helped out on the family farm, caring for animals and assisting her parents.

She married her husband, William (Billy) Harvey from Cookstown, Co. Tyrone, in June, 1944, at Aghavea Parish Church.

The pair had met in the early 1940s and they welcomed three children into their family - Ken, Shirley and Garry.

Upon marriage, they made their home at Sixmilecross before later moving to Kilmore Green, Lisnaskea.

Mrs. Harvey relished the role of wife and mother and helped with various financial collection services in the local community.

In her free time, Mrs. Harvey was a keen home baker who loved sharing her results with family and friends.

The sight of Mrs. Harvey and her sister, Dorrie, was familiar to many people in Lisnaskea as they travelled about in their little car.

A family spokesperson said: “Many local people will remember the two ladies, who both loved clothes and jewellery, going about their business in Lisnaskea.

“Dorrie did the driving, and mum was her co-pilot; they covered many miles, visiting friends and family in their little car.”

Mrs. Harvey was widowed in 1987, but maintained an active social life, enjoying time spent in the local community.

In 2012, following a period of failing health, she moved to Gortacharm Nursing Home, where she was one of the oldest residents. She enjoyed her new surroundings and her new way of life.

The Harvey family are grateful for all of the care given to their mother during this period.

The family spokesperson said: “The family wish to extend their thanks and gratitude to the management and staff of Gortacham for their exceptional care, love and attention which they lavished on Kay.

“The family feel blessed that Kay had a long, healthy life, and a great sense of humour.”

Mrs. Emily Kathleen Harvey is survived by her children, Kenny, Shirley and Garry; granddaughters, Linda and Jenny; and great-grandchildren, Rhys and Remy.
