WHILE progress on the redevelopment of the Unipork site in Enniskillen continues apace, many have retained fond memories of the factory as it was.

The bacon processing factory, which opened in 1966 on the outskirts of the town, once employed some 200 people.

However, it was closed in the year 2000 due to increased competitiveness in the market.

The factory's closure was a bitter blow at the time, but it didn't sully the memories and good times shared by the employees.

Now, those who worked at Unipork are being invited along to a nostalgic reunion to reminisce on these priceless memories.

The event will take place at the Devenish Bar on Friday, April 19, with £10 door entry going toward two local charities, JustUs, and Friends of the Cancer Centre.

Refreshments will be provided as well as live music and prize raffles.

Organiser Jack Mulligan worked at the Unipork factory for more than 20 years, and described it as "a unique place".

"People of both religions worked there together for years during The Troubles. Everyone got on and friends were made for life,” he said.

“It was a unique place. If it hadn’t closed, I’d still be there! When you meet people who used to work there, you always look back on the place, and the laughs you had in it."

Mr. Mulligan added that the upcoming event will be a chance for former employees to catch up while also raising money for charity.
