An Enniskillen woman will abseil down one of Northern Ireland’s tallest buildings for charity.

Annie Masterson, who is abseiling Belfast City Hospital's yellow tower block, aims to raise funds for the Friends of the Cancer Centre.

The event, named Take on the Tower Superhero Abseil, will see her descend 190ft on May 11 and September 7.

She said: “I have been a volunteer for Friends of the Cancer Centre for seven years, and in this time I have completed a skydive and a 10k run, where I raised over £3,000 for the charity.

“The charity is extremely close to my heart and I will be taking part in the abseil in memory of my Uncle Fergie, Great Uncle Tony and Grandad Jimmy.

"You can make a difference too by supporting this incredible charity, so I would really encourage anyone reading this to sign-up for the abseil.”

The charity has been supporting Northern Irish cancer patients for 39 years.

Ciara Bainbridge, corporate and events fundraising officer at Friends of the Cancer Centre, said: “The abseil is one of the highlights in our calendar and the money raised through sponsorship will go on to help families in Northern Ireland."

She said registration for the event is £35 per person with a minimum suggested sponsorship of £150.

This, she said, could provide six hours of nursing care from one of the charity’s specialist nurses.
