A driver is facing a possible disqualification after being stopped by police while driving an uninsured vehicle in Enniskillen.

Officers from Fermanagh and Omagh District Support Team spotted the car while on patrol in the town.

The driver claimed he had just purchased the vehicle and was on his way home, but police said they did not believe his explanation.

He already has a number of other matters pending and is not eligible for a fixed penalty notice. Police said he is likely to face disqualification when the case comes before court.

In a social media post, Police Fermanagh and Omagh said the driver could reach the 12-point threshold needed for disqualification through several combinations of penalties, including four three-point offences, two six-point offences, or two three-point offences and one six-point offence.

Police warned that drivers who choose to drive without insurance contribute to ever-increasing costs for other motorists.

The vehicle has been recovered and will not be released until a valid insurance policy is produced.
