A strong final quarter took Lisnaskea Emmetts to the Ulster Intermediate title at Kingspan Breffni Park on Saturday. With 15 minutes left to play Lisnaskea trailed by four points, and could have been further behind only for a Pearse Collins clearance off the line, but a terrific point from corner back Kevin Curran kicked the Emmetts into gear and they went on to boss the closing exchanges.

A sublime score from a sideline ball from Daniel Kille had Lisnaskea back on level terms with four minutes remaining and then Kille, Conor Curran and Kille again fired over late points to secure a deserved Ulster Championship success for the Emmetts.

This is not the first time this season that Lisnaskea have produced a stirring finish to a game and it is a testament to their character and fitness.

Their game is built on hard work and although at times things were not going right for them on Saturday, they never let their effort drop. Having controlled the bulk of the play in the first half they found themselves two points adrift due to some wayward shooting, and then they fell further behind at the start of the second half. However, this is a side who have great belief in their ability and when others may have let their heads drop they continued to press forward and eventually they found their rhythm to take them to the win.

There were some excellent performances throughout the side from Daniel Kille, to the guile and creativity of Mark Little in attack. There was the sheer commitment and desire of the midfield pairing of Brian Og Maguire and Conor Curran and excellent displays throughout the defence, especially from Kevin Curran and John Woods.

The Emmetts did find Doohamlet hard to break down, particularly in the early stages, although Kille did open the scoring in the seventh minute with a point from a free.

Doohamlet responded immediately with a point from full forward Mark Murphy but it was Lisnaskea who were enjoying the greater possession with Aidy Little clipping over a free after Paul Curran was fouled before Brian Og Maguire fired over a good point after being set up by Mark Little.

Lisnaskea should have gone on to open up a healthy advantage but Doohamlet registered the next score when Ted Duffy converted a free after Lisnaskea had given possession away from a sideline ball, while over the next period they went on to account a series of wides.

Aidy Little, Kille and Stephen Carters were all guilty of missing chances during this spell although Kille did rattle over a 45 as they moved into a 0-04 to 0-02 lead four minutes before half time.

With the Emmetts working hard to get bodies around the man in possession when Doohamlet got within distance, the Monaghan side rarely looked like threatening the Lisnaskea goal but a fine conclusion to the first half saw the impetus swing the way of Doohamlet. Niall Connolly tucked the ball into the net when a ball across the face of goal eluded a number of Lisnaskea defenders before being slotted home to put the Monaghan outfit a point ahead. And then Shane McManus knocked over a fine point from the right to give Doohamlet a two point advantage at the interval, 1-03 to 0-04.

Kille closed it back to a point on the resumption from a free but Doohamlet followed this up with their best period of the contest as they banged over three unanswered points to move into a four point lead.

Shane McManus fisted an effort over the bar before Ciaran McManus lofted over a point and Duffy tagged on another to put their side into a 1-06 to 0-05 lead 12 minutes into the second half.

Indeed, it could have been worse for Lisnaskea as another Doohamlet attack resulted in Niall Connolly getting in front of goalkeeper Barry McGoldrick to fist towards goal but full back Pearse Collins did superbly well to get back and hook the ball away before it crossed the line.

And this was to be something of a turning point in the game as Lisnaskea began to get a grip on proceedings once more. Corner back Kevin Curran kicked a wonderful point, ending a 15 minute period without a score for Lisnaskea, and they quickly followed this up with points from Shane Ingram and Carters to reduce the deficit to the minimum. A good score from midfielder Glen Comiskey edged Doohamlet two points ahead but the final stages of the contest was all one way as Lisnaskea dominated.

Carters lobbed over a point with seven minutes to play to leave one dividing them and then arrived Killes splendid sideline score of his right foot from the right hand side of the pitch to level the contest.

And there was only going to be one winner as Lisnaskea continued to pile on the pressure. Kille kicked his first point from play to put them in front and midfielder Conor Curran banged over another as the Emmetts closed in on victory.

The final say of the game went to Kille who stroked over a free in injury time to put his side three ahead and referee Barry Cassidys final whistle started massive celebrations among players and supporters alike as Lisnaskea claimed the Ulster Intermediate crown.
