Enniskillen Running Club was well represented at the excellent, inaugural Strabane Lifford Half Marathon and took home two age category awards.

Eamonn Monaghan was the first ERC runner home in an excellent time of 1:22:55. This placed Eamon seventh overall and first in the Male 45 category.

Next ERC athlete was John McDonnell in a superb time of 1:39:54 which will set him up nicely for the upcoming Walled City Marathon. Roisin McDonnell also finished in a brilliant time of 1:46:11 closely followed by Siobhan Monaghan taking a Female 45 category second place for ERC with a time of 1:46:58. Taking part in her first ever race over the 13.1m distance was Tracey McEvoy who finished with a time of 1:54:55. Also completing her first half marathon was Enniskillen Parkrun regular Caroline McCaffrey, who finished in 2:09:42.

Belfast City Marathon Five Enniskillen Running Club athletes spent last week’s bank holiday travelling to Belfast to take part in the city’s marathon. Whilst conditions dramatically changed over the course of the race with runners getting hampered by strong gusts on the exposed sections combined with a cold rain, this only helped to leave the already difficult 26.2 mile course even more testing.

Only three weeks after running the London Marathon, David Somerville recorded his second fastest marathon time to date with a 3:02:31. David finished in 53rd place overall in this, his fourth Belfast City Marathon in successive years. Paul Somerville was next to cross the finish line in Ormeau Park, setting an excellent new personal best time of 3:16:35. Heather Williams was also another of the London marathoners who took part. Heather ran yet another brilliant time of 3:23:04. Only a week after his tremendous endeavours at the Rock Adventure Duathlon, James Johnston persevered with tired legs to still finish in a great time of 3:46:53. Running her first ever marathon, having only joined ERC last year, Sandra Barnett had arguably the run of the day with a fantastic 4:17:24. Sandra ran the perfect race on this her first attempt at the marathon distance running a negative split and finishing incredibly strong.

Great Limerick Run Enniskillen Running Club’s Tara Malone travelled to Limerick on Sunday 4th May to compete in the 26.2 mile Great Limerick Run. Having just completed the London Marathon three weeks previous in personal best time, Tara smashed her PB yet again by five minutes to cross the finish line in 3:13:33. This was an amazing run which propelled Tara into the top six female finishers at the event. These latest marathons are all perfect preparation for Tara’s six marathons in six countries in six days challenge next month in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.
