Ballinamallard’s Ryan Campbell believes better results are just around the corner, despite extending their run of league games without a win to eight on Saturday. The Mallards went down 2-0 to former champions Cliftonville at Ferney Park, but it could have been a different outcome of they had taken the chances they created. The defeat leaves Ballinamallard one point off the foot of the table, but Campbell is confident they will pull away from the relegation zone as the season progresses.

“We are not too worried yet,” he revealed. “It would be different if we were playing badly, but we are playing decent football and we have time to put it right. It is still the start of the season but as we are coming towards Christmas we know we need to be turning it around. I thought in the first half for about 15 minutes they had us run ragged, but then we settled. We were 1-0 down to a wonder goal but we had chances after that. The chance I had I should have scored or hit the target at least, and then Liam Martin had a good chance and hit the crossbar. Those are the wee half chances that we have to be taking. That is the difference on this league. You have to take the half chances to be able to push on. In nearly all our games it has been tight but I think it should come good and there will be a turn around. We just have to keep doing what we are doing and hopefully we will start getting a bit of luck at times. The ball just doesn’t seem to be falling for us at the minute but hopefully it will click for us and we will start talking our chances.” Campbell has been one of the Mallards top scorers in recent seasons but he is yet to find the net this season, which is part due to playing some games on the right side of midfield. The attacker admits he is just glad to be on the pitch, and isn’t concerned about playing on the wing. “I don’t mind at the minute,” he said. “Our two central midfielders are out for a few games and we have had a few injuries, but I’m happy enough to play wherever Whitey has to put me. You have to help out for the team and play wherever you are needed.” The fixtures do not get any easier for the Mallards either as they prepare to travel to the Oval for a game against Glentoran this Saturday. Despite the Belfast stadium not being a happy hunting ground for the Fermanagh side, Campbell is hopeful they can add to their points tally. “I think we can beat them if we are solid and compact in the way we can be, and we take our chances,” he said. “They have been on a good run and it is always hard at the Oval, but if we can put in a performance and play the way we can play and take our half chances I think we should have a good chance.”
