Lisnaskea 4-10 Kinawley 1-11 Lisnaskea struck gold in a ten minute period in the first half of their clash with Kinawley as they plundered four goals with a shell shocked Brian Boru’s left reeling at the break and down by 12 points.

The win saw the Emmetts leap frog over their opponents who have now lost three from their last four following an opening day success over Roslea. Lisnaskea meanwhile have two wins from three and with the break in play over the coming weeks likely to see more injured players return to the fold for Kevin O’Rourke and Aidy Little’s men they will be looking forward to the rest of the season; “We are very pleased to be where we are. We have had a lot of injuries but we are still sitting on five points and we are happy with that. The younger players who have come in have done very well and there is real competition for places now and that can only be a good thing;” explained O’Rourke after the game.

His opposite number Mark Monaghan, was left wondering what happened during that ten minute spell in the first half; “We were just wide open and they just ran through us at the back. They played well and were the better team there is no doubt about that but that ten minute spell killed the game for us completely.”

Lisnaskea had Mark Little operating at midfield and the veteran was at his willow the wisp best jinking and weaving and running at Kinawley at every opportunity. He created numerous chances for team-mates and along with Daniel Kille at centre half forward proved too hot to handle for the visiting defence.

Kille struck for two of those four goals in the first half as he took the game to Kinawley while Niall McElroy and Shane O’Hara scored the other two goals for the Emmetts.

Kinawley had their chances in the first half with Shaun Doherty fisting over when a goal presented itself while they also manufactured a number of half chances for goal that they just failed to take.

The visitors moved James Allen out to marshal Kille in the second half and he succeeded in nullifying his influence to some extent but the damage was done as Lisnaskea were able to protect their lead.

Doherty did claim his goal when he got on the end of a long ball to fist home and he was a regular point score over the hour along with Paddy McGovern and Sean McManus. Kinawley did half the deficit to six points but that was as good as it got as the Emmetts sniped the odd point on the counter with Kenny Kearns among the scorers.

For the winners John Rice played his first game of the year at corner back and performed well while Shane O’Hara also got through a lot of work in the middle of the field.

For Kinawley James Allen, Danny McGovern at corner back and Paddy McGovern can all be happy with their contributi
