Brendan Dolan's superb run at this year's William Hill World Darts Championship at the Alexandra Palace ended with defeat to an inspired Nathan Aspinall today.

The 'History Maker', who progressed further than he has ever done in 11 years at the World Championships and will have plenty of positives to take away from the last few weeks, never really got going in the game, losing his throw in the opening leg as Aspinall quickly claimed the first set.

And Aspinall went on to secure the second set 3-2 before pushing further ahead by adding the third set on a 3-1 scoreline.

The Belcoo man fell further behind as his opponent won the fourth set 3-1 although Dolan showed glimpses of his quality as he finally broke the Aspinall throw on his way to winning the fifth set 3-0.

Dolan continued to battle in the sixth but Aspinall wrapped things off as he secured a 5-1 victory and a place in the last four.
