Dungannon Swifts 2 Ballinamallard Utd 2 (aet)

(Ballinamallard won 3-2 on pens)

Ballinamallard United made history today as they secured their place in the Tennent's Irish Cup semi-final for the first time ever with a dramatic penalty shoot out victory over Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park.

And it was nothing less than Harry McConkey's side deserved as they twice came from behind to force penalties before holding their nerve to progress.

The away side went behind after 32 minutes after a good finish by Seanan Clucas although they were unfortunate not to equalise five minutes later when Jason McCartney's free kick hit the crossbar.

The Ducks though were back on level terms seven minutes into the second half when McCartney slotted home from a Josh McIlwaine cross.

The away side enjoyed the better of the second half but with neither side able to find a second goal the game went to extra time.

It looked as if it was going to be heartbreak for Ballinamallard when Ally Teggart slotted home six minutes into the second period to put Swifts ahead for a seconds time.

However, the Mallards showed great character to hit back for a second time with Ryan Campbell heading home McIlwaine's ball from the right.

And it was the Mallards who showed the greater composure in the spot kicks as they set up a meeting with Warrrenpoint Town in the semi-final.
