Irvinestown Wanderers stalwart Fred Lynch selects the best Fermanagh and Western XI that he has seen play against his side
I picked a team a few months back and had some ‘aul hands’ in it so I’ll go with a more recent team this time around.
Goalkeeper
Trevor Morrison - Killen Rangers
Cant leave Paddy out always had a great game against the Wanderers.
Full back
Michael Kerr - Enniskillen Rangers
Probably one of the best defenders to play at this level. Does it all, leads the team, scores crackers and leaves the boot in when needed. Easy pick.
Full Back
Marty Flanagan - Strathroy Harps
Absolute gentlemen and great player. Made playing out from the back look easy even on some awful pitches. A rock for Harps for years.
Centre Half
Richard Johnston - Enniskillen Rangers
There’s not to many strikers get the better of Richie, always seem to have a knack of being in the right place at the right time.
Great leader.
Centre Half
Benny Boyle - Strathroy Harps
What a torture from set plays. Scored a few against us. A great no nonsense centre half. Probably along with Marty the main reason for me why Strathroy were so successful.
Midfield
Kyle McCleery - Lisbellaw Utd
Kyle got an awful injury a couple of years ago now and the game has missed him. He had some great battles with Ronan Ormsby down the years. Often pulled the ‘Law over the line in games where they might not have won had he not been there.
Midfield
Ryan Hanna - Tummery Athletic
Great player. Pass, score, never stops running, another player I hated to see tog out against us. Like Kyle he has taken to management very well. But I’m sure he’ll be playing and playing well for a few years yet.
Midfield
Christopher Currie - Enniskillen Rangers
Probably along with Gary Maguire (Mason) one of the most talented players I’ve ever seen. Remember a game he played against us for Enniskillen Athletic and he was unbelievable. Don’t think I’ve ever seen him play a match were he’s under 8/10.
Striker
Mark Jones - NFC Kesh
The best striker I think I’ve seen in the Fermanagh and Western and I’ve seen a few. Hate him playing against us. Tried everything to stop him but still scores. If I had a chance to sign one player for the Wanderers it would probably be him.
Striker
Aidy McCaffery - Tummery Athletic
Another player that I’m sure every manager would want in there team. Gets dogs abuse from most opposition supporters and loves it! Scores some unbelievable goals. Can be a bit hot headed at times but take that out of his game and you might not have the same cracking player.
Striker
Frank Wallace - Enniskillen Town
Another goal machine. Frank could probably have played at higher level. Great at holding the ball up and scores all types of goals. Towns talisman now for a few seasons.
Like everyone that picks their best 11 there is always great players left out.
I’ve left out players like William McFredrick, Paul McGrath (Lisbellaw), Darren Teague (Harps), Emmet McNabb (Tummery), Cathal Beacom (Town), Darren Mc Quade (Kesh), Conor Tummon (Town), Collie Adams (Beragh) and Mark Culter (Rangers) that could make most teams.
