Tempo 1-03 Ederney 0-10

Ederney made it three wins out of four in SFL Division One with a four point victory away to Tempo on Sunday.

Mickey Cassidy’s side might not have been at their best but having led by a point at the break they were able to push on to run out 0-10 to 1-03 victors by the final whistle.

It was a return to winning ways for the St. Joseph’s side who suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Derrygonnelly four days previous in Dromore.

“The Derrygonnelly game was disappointing but we were very understrength for it and to be honest with another game on the Sunday you have no time to dwell on it and you just have to move on.

“It was good to bounce back against Tempo and get the win but at this stage it is a balancing act between trying to win games and keeping players right,” he said.

In a shortened season, injuries were always going to be a problem for teams and Cassidy is just keen to now get through the next league game away to Erne Gaels before the attention can switch to championship.

“We’ve had plenty of injuries and we’ve had players who have come into the league with injuries but hopefully we can get through this week’s game without any problems and we are hoping that we will have a clean bill of health for the championship,” he said.

Tempo manager Pat McNabb has had his injury concerns too and like Cassidy he wants to get their nextl league game against Devenish out of the way and then get the head down for a meeting with Teemore in the quarter final of the championship.

“We were missing a few through injury on Sunday and we felt we didn’t have the firepower to go toe to toe with them so we sat back and tried to frustrate them. The boys battled hard and I couldn’t fault the effort but we probably didn’t have enough up front on the day.

“We have Devenish this weekend and we’ll look forward to that and once that’s over we’ll then concentrate on the championship,” said McNabb.

Tempo came into Sunday’s clash having clinched the points from their meeting with Erne Gaels midweek but it was Ederney who made the brighter start to the contest as they rattled off the opening three points of the game.

Full forward Sean Cassidy was his side’s main source of scores over the hour, Cassidy landing six points from play in all. He claimed two of the opening three points while Mark McCauley rattled over a point from a mark.

Tempo though were right back in it when Rory Foy got on the end of a high ball to punch to the net and when Lorcan McStravick followed up with a point it put the home side into a one point lead, 1-01 to 0-03.

Ederney then had two goal chances but McCauley was denied by a good save from Matthew Jackson in the Maguires goal while Marty McGrath has an effort come back off the post.

Points though from Pól McKervey and Declan Deazley did nudge Ederney ahead by the minimum at the break, 0-05 to 1-01.

The sides were level again early in the second half when Eunan McCann fired over for Tempo but Ederney quickly reasserted their authority with Cassidy firing over two points from play before McCauley also tagged on a point to make it a three point game.

Tempo were to suffer a further blow when they had Oisin Jackson sent off after picking up a second yellow card and Cassidy went on to add another point to make it 0-09 to 1-02.

A second McStravick point brought Tempo back to within a goal but Cassidy wrapped things up with his sixth point of the afternoon as Ederney finished up 0-10 to 1-03 winners.
