Prolific NFC Kesh striker Mark Jones selects the best Fermanagh and Western XI that he has played against

Goalkeeper

Trever Morrison

Paddy was a great goalkeeper for Killen for many years. He was an unbelievable shot stopper but also commanded his box and was good with his feet.

Nigel Seaney, a Junior Cup winner with Irvinestown, was the one that run him close.

Defender

Michael Kerr

Michael is a great defender who knows how to defend and attack. Also has a rocket of a left foot and is a set piece specialist.

Defender

Nicky Dunbar

The most talented defender I have seen in the F&W, can read the game so well, comfortable on the ball and loves playing it out from the back.

Defender

James McKenna

Had some great battles with him down the years, a proper footballer who can do it all. A real leader and it was no surprise he went on to play at a higher level and to captain Ballinamallard in the Premier League.

Midfielder

Gerry McCullagh

A player that loves a tackle, I have been on the receiving end of them many times, but a great player to sit in front of your back line and just dictate the play. Really comfortable on the ball and can see a pass.

Midfield

Gary Maguire

An Irvinestown legend, always a nightmare for defenders. He is one of the most talented players to grace the league, can go left or right has a great left foot and scores goals.

Midfield

Shane Goan

Another excellent player for Irvinestown, the energy he brought to a midfield was unbelievable. A box to box midfielder who could also score goals.

Midfield

Cathal Beacom

A player that can score a goal out of nothing, another one with a rocket of a left foot but also a really talented footballer. Again no surprises he went on to play in the Irish League.

Striker

Gary Beckett

Has been left out of a lot of teams, probably unlucky that he played in the same position as me!!! I know he has played most of his career in the League of Ireland and is a Derry City legend but I couldn’t leave him out.

I think what he has done for Town over the years justifies his selection, he has over 100 goals and league and cup titles.

My favourite player ever in the F&W, just makes the game look easy, he will pull defenders all over the pitch and just a nightmare to play against. A scorer of tons of goals.

Striker

Shane O’Brien

Maybe cheating a bit here as I played with Shane for many years but I also played against him when he played in that great treble winning Rangers team. A really smart footballer, his hold up play was better than anyone I have ever seen. He also knew were the back of the net was and also used to create so many chances.

Striker

Ryan Cunningham

Ryan was a 20 goal a season centre forward year on year. He had blistering pace, loved to play on the shoulder of the last defender and would have had a field day playing with my other two forwards.
