Ederney manager Mickey Cassidy says that they owe it to themselves to produce a performance in the championship final after a disappointing showing in the 2018 decider when they lost to Derrygonnelly on a 2-16 to 0-10 scoreline.

The St. Joseph’s side booked their place back in another final with victory over Teemore on Sunday night but Cassidy knows that it is going to take a big display if they are to stop the Harps landing six in a row.

“We didn’t perform that last time and we owe it to ourselves to get a performance this time around.

“The players are determined to put that behind them, the memories don’t go away quickly,” he said.

“We owe it to ourselves to get a performance this time.

However, he knows the size of the task they face on Sunday week.

“They haven’t won five in a row for nothing and they have been the best in the county for the last five years and their record speaks for itself.

“It is going to be a tough test and we have to be ready for it. It’s going to take a hell of a performance to get over the line.”

And Ederney got down to work early this week to prepare for the challenge.

“We will have to knuckle down and work hard over the next two weeks to try and get to where we need to be,” he added.

Ederney were deserving victors on Sunday night although Cassidy knows that there are areas that they must improve on.

“Semi finals are about winning and getting over the line but all we have done is book a place in the final,” he commented.

“I thought we were very good going forward and put up a good score but obviously we were disappointed with the goals that went in. We showed good character though every time that they came back into it to find a response and that was pleasing.”
