Northern Ireland 1 Slovakia 2 (aet)

Fermanagh men Kyle Lafferty and Michael McGovern suffered heartbreak at Windsor Park tonight as Northern Ireland lost 2-1 after extra time to Slovakia in the Euro 2020 Play Off Final.

The visitors had led at half time after a mix up at the back allowed Kucka in to slot past Bailey Peacock Farrell in the 17th minute.

However, Northern Ireland pressed hard in the second half with Lafferty making a positive impact after he was introduced in the 77th minute.

It has been a difficult week for striker Lafferty following the death of his older sister, Sonia, last Thursday and he displayed his emotions at the end having told the Impartial Reporter that he would play the game in her honour as she was his biggest fan.

With 87 minutes on the clock Northern Ireland levelled as Paddy McNair's cross from the right was turned into his own net by Skriniar.

Indeed, Lafferty almost snatched victory for Northern Ireland moments later but his well struck effort hit the base of the post as the tie went to extra time.

It was Slovakia though who were to go on and clinch their place at the Euros as Duris fired in at the near post as they secured a 2-1 win.
