It has been a while since a club hurling final has taken place in Fermanagh.
On Saturday, Lisbellaw and Erne Gaels will go head to head in Brewster Park in the final of the Junior Hurling Championship.
With the return of the Belleek side to adult hurling along with the creation of South Fermanagh Gaels, hurling in the county is on the rise.
For Belleek manager, Liam McCauley, he is happy his side are in a final and hopes it will help the club as it continues to grow.
“It’s good to see the hurling back on again and there is a fairly high skill level as well which has surprised me. From the last time I played it the skill level has gone up
“There’s a lot of young fellas coming in and are very skilful and we would be looking to build for about a year or two ahead.”
Liam has been impressed with the camaraderie of the squad which includes players from Belcoo and Garrison and hopes they will be able to put in a performance on Saturday: “It would be a big challenge because they have very good hurlers.
“We played them earlier and up until the last 10 minutes we were leading, then they threw on a few boys and it totally turned the game around.
For Lisbellaw manager, Nigel Moore, he is expecting a battle.
“We played them in the round robin for this competition. For a part of that game they had a bit of a lead over us so we had to work hard to get out of there with a victory .
“So we are expecting a right battle from them. It has been a long time from Erne Gaels have been in a final like this in Fermanagh so I’m sure they will be well up for it.
“They have some good young lads in the team.”
And he adds that having hurling finals in Fermanagh once again is great for the game in the county.
“It’s a great experience for the young lads and even for some of the older lads because there hasn’t been any finals in Fermanagh.
“Its great for the youngsters to go watch and see because there wouldn’t be many games in Fermanagh apart from the county.”
