The Intermediate Championship title, a return to the Senior Championship and local bragging rights are all on the line this Saturday night when Erne Gaels and Devenish collide.

If previous meetings this season are anything to go by this should be a tight contest with it promising to be an enthralling encounter under the lights of Brewster Park.

The sides have met three times already this year with two of the games finishing in draws while the Club Players Competition final was only decided after extra time with Erne Gaels taking the win by a point.

It is the Belleek outfit though will will go into the game as favourites. They had an impressive league campaign that saw them finish in third spot in Division One while they cruised past Maguiresbridge in the quarter-final. The semi-final was a much tougher test against Irvinestown but they managed to squeeze through that with two points to spare although manager Seamus Ryder will know that they will need to raise their game on Saturday if they are to get past their neighbours from Garrison.

Ryder suffered a blow before the championship started with the news that his star man, Ultan Kelm, had joined Fremantle in the AFL and he has not been available as he gets ready to make the move.

However, that news was offset by Ryan Lyons going in the opposite direction - Lyons returning home after almost two years in Australia - and his availability is a massive boost for the Belleek outfit as he adds to what is a potent Erne Gaels attack.

Shane Rooney missed the semi-final due to injury but it is hoped that he will be fit for Saturday night and alongside the likes of Lyons, Tommy McCaffrey and Gareth Deery gives Erne Gaels a real cutting edge up front and it is a number of threats that Devenish will have to deal with.

The midfield pairing Brian Mullin and Michael Og McGarrigle should provide Erne Gaels with a good platform at midfield while behind them Oisin Kelm has brought scores from the half back line and they will look to the likes of Shane Mimnagh and Colm Keown to keep a tight rein on the Devenish forward line.

Devenish are going through something of a transition at present but they held their own in the league with a mid-table finish in Division One and have quietly gone about their business in the championship.

They were much too strong for Derrylin in the quarter final as they ran out convincing victors while they followed this up with a workmanlike display in their win over Belcoo, the Garrison men pulling away in the latter stages to book their place in the final.

Defensively, Devenish have been well drilled and organised. JJ O'Brien has impressed at full back while Lorcan O'Brien, Declan Rasdale and Fionan O'Brien have also caught the eye although they are going to have to be on top of their game against the Erne Gaels attack.

At midfield Luke Robinson and Jason Love are a strong, physical partnership and their battle against Mullin and McGarrigle could be pivotal.

Further forward then Devenish will look to the experienced Terry O'Flanagan to keep the scoreboard ticking over along with the likes of Ruairi Maguire and Ruairi Doherty.

With this being a derby there will be no quarter asked or given by either side and the fact that there is silverware also on the line just adds to the mix. This is a game that is expected to be close and could well be decided in the later stages.
