Kinawley Minor Girls booked their place in the semi-final of Ulster with a hard earned four point victory over Armagh side, Clann na Gael.

The 5-08 to 3-10 victory now sets up a clash with Monaghan champions Emmet Óg on Sunday for a place in the provincial decider.

Half time saw only two points separating the sides but on the restart Kinawley took control of proceedings and hit an unanswered three goals and two points to move 13 points clear.

However, the Armagh champions fought back but the Borus had done enough.

Clann na Gael started the better, hitting the first three points of the game before Kinawley got off the mark through a Megan Murphy goal to level the scores.

This was followed by a free from Keelan Murphy and a Caoimhe Hamilton point from play to leave it 1-02 to 0-03 at the water break.

Two points from Eve Gillespie and Niamh Henderson levelled the tie once more but Kinawley came back at them and Keelan Murphy and Hamilton restored their lead.

With five to play of the half, Clann na Gael’s Aimee Brady found the back of the net to make it a one point game in the Armagh’s side favour.

However, the impressive Hamilton ensured her side would go in at the break in front as she grabbed Kinawley’s second goal of the game to leave it 2-04 to 1-05.

Kinawley could not have asked for a better start to the second half, but it may not have been as good if Clann na Gael had converted their penalty chance.

Keelan Murphy started the scoring spree with a quick 1-01 while Aoife Murphy also found the back of the net following a pass from Hamilton.

The third goal had an air of luck about it as Rion McKenna’s high ball found its way into the net.

It was to get worse for Armagh as they received two red cards for Henderson and Cliodhna Campbell.

At the second water break, Kinawley now led 5-06 to 1-05 and with a two man advantage would have been expected to cruise home.

Clann na Gael hit two points on the resumption before Keelan Murphy and Eimear Doonan replied with what would be Kinawley’s final scores of the game.

The Armagh side kept plugging away and they were rewarded late on in the game with two goals from Lara Madden and Caitlin Brady to make it a four point game.

But it was too little too late as Kinawley held out to march on to the semi-final of the championship.
