Club Eirne have revealed radical plans they will be looking at in the coming months to support the development of Fermanagh GAA.

Gerard Treacy, Club Eirne Chairman, told those in attendance at the Fermanagh County Convention at the start of the week they are working to raise almost £1million to help with the development of Lissan and the coaching and games development within the county.

“We have been quite busy over the last four months, we became very much aware of the work that Sean Donnelly and his committee in relation to the Lissan development plans. And we also became aware of the work that Ferghal O’Connor and his team were doing in terms of a long term athletic development plan,” Treacy explained.

Following presentations from the respective groups Treacy said the plans were very exciting and tied in with the Club Eirne tagline - ‘To be the best that we can be’.

“If we have the best coaching structures in place and we have the best facilities in place well then that’s going to be a huge help in developing the youth of our county both hurling and football and indeed at ladies football as well.”

The plans for the year ahead to help with this are “embryonic” at this stage said Treacy and will need endorsement from county management committee but they hope to run a draw that will raise a minimum of £750,00 to a £1million.

“We’re looking at an ambitious £100 a ticket draw, which will have £250,000 worth of prizes, which will include a high percentage kickback for all Fermanagh GAA clubs.

“Because it really is essential that we receive the support of all clubs and Fermanagh Gaels across the world to ensure that we’re going to make a success of this draw.

“We’re going to have to make £750,000. We’re looking at three quarters of a million at a minimum, because if we’re going to be serious about carrying out this development at Lissan...we need to push on now.”

Pointing to the detailed report by Sean Donnelly’s on the plans at Lissan, Treacy continued: “We believe in Club Eirne we can maybe play a huge part in that. But on this occasion, we’re going to have to look for the support of the clubs as well.”

While at the early stages of planning, Treacy mooted a launch date around April or May time with a Race Day event and the draw to be completed next Christmas.

Other details from Treacy’s report showed Club Eirne transferred over £140,149 to the County Board and he said the group was in a healthy place.

Plans were also being looked at to contact former members who dropped off in the last two years to see if they are in a position to rejoin as well the recruitment of new members and patrons.

Finally Treacy thanked all those loyal members who supported Club Eirne over the last 24 months as well as those who gave support and encouragement to the group.
