NFC Kesh 6 Mountfield 2

Two goals from Ryan Campbell and two from Nathan Cashel helped Kesh to another victory, avenging their defeat to Mountfield earlier in the season.

It is now one defeat in their last seven games for Kesh, and they have scored six goals in three of their past four games.

“We have been playing well,” acknowledged manager Scott Robinson.

“We have started to get our squad back, and it has shown in the results. I told them that we had to match Mountfield physically and then let our football do the talking, and that is exactly what we did.

“The boys were super the whole game. We thought that in the first game they got away with quite a bit, but we had a strong referee on Saturday.

“We have been strong at the back this last while and we continued to be strong again on Saturday. The week off maybe did us no harm and refreshed us, and we showed plenty of energy.

“We are looking forward to the Junior now in January.”

Kesh named debutant Darragh McPhillips in goal after a midweek training injury to regular keeper Stefan McCusker, but it was at the other end of the pitch where the early action was concentrated.

In the opening seconds of the match Danny Wilson broke clear, but a heavy touch allowed the Mountfield keeper to race out and smother his effort.

Kesh were pressing high up the pitch, and they were rewarded with six minutes on the clock when Kyle Malone and Lee Walker linked up down the left. Walker advanced on goal and although his shot was saved, Cashel hooked in the rebound.

Five minutes later they had doubled their lead.

Cashel, Walker and Ryan Beatty were all involved in the build up, with Campbell applying the finishing touch.

Mountfield did pull one back, capitalising on Beatty’s slip to fire past McPhillips, but just before the half time interval Kesh restored their two goal advantage when Campbell broke clear down the left and cut the ball back to Walker, who rifled a low shot into the corner of the net.

Eight minutes into the second half Kesh added a fourth, with Ryan Beatty grabbing a rare goal when he controlled Cashel’s cross and volleyed into the top corner.

Mountfield added their second from the penalty spot, but Kesh continued to press forward and should have added to their tally when Cashel rounded the goalkeeper, but his attempted pass to Campbell was blocked by the recovering keeper.

Cashel did bag a fifth moments later when Wilson’ through ball set him clear on goal, and Ben McLaren provided the assist for the final goal of the game, with Campbell adding his second of the day to seal the points.
