Ederney Boxing Club will have two boxers taking part in the Irish National Championships which get underway this weekend.

Luke Duncan and Charlie McNulty secured their place at the Irish Championships by claiming Ulster titles recently.

Duncan (16) won the Mid Ulster title in Omagh and he followed it up with a devastating first round stoppage in the Ulster final against an opponent from St. John’s Boxing Club Derry.

Coach Oliver Kelly was delighted to see Duncan get the reward for the efforts he has put in.

“I couldn’t fault him, he has put in a great effort and it was a great performance. Nobody would have expected that from him but he has been going well and I’m delighted for him,” he said.

McNulty, who was handed a walk-over through Mid Ulster, also landed an Ulster title although he had a much tougher bout against Dunfanaghy Boxing Club’s Luke Kelly.

This was a close encounter but it was McNulty who shaded it to have hand raised at the finish.

“It was a close contest but Charlie did well to get the win against an experienced opponent,” said Kelly.

And the Ederney coach is hoping that the pair can go on to claim Irish titles.

“The two of them are working very hard over the last few weeks, anything I ask of them they are doing and we will be going there looking to win. We are looking forward to it,” added Kelly.
