It WAS a memorable day for Enniskillen RFC as they returned from the Girls Youth Finals day at Rainey Old Boys RFC with a clean sweep of three Ulster titles – the U-18s, U-16s and U-14s – all taking home the cups.

The Girls youth section set off early on Sunday morning from Mullaghmeen, with all three teams hoping to bring home silverware.

U-14s

The U-14s started things off with their semi-final against Letterkenny/Limavady.

They faced a tough challenge, but set about it with great vigour, running out eventually five tries to two tries.

They had secured their spot against Virginia in the final – and what a final it was!

With only seconds left to play, and the scores level at 3-3, the mighty Enniskillen girls put both pace and power into their final efforts, and scored a try in the corner, with the last play of the game making them the U-14s Ulster Cup winners in a real nail-biter.

U-16s

Next up were the U-16s in their cup final, and they faced an unknown opponent against Ards/Ballynahinch/Cooke (ABC).

The ABC girls had made it to the U-16s final having scored lots of points in their quarter and semi-final.

The Enniskillen girls had to work really hard to stay in the game in the first 10-15 minutes, but once they had breached the ABC try line for the first time, that settled any nerves they may have had.

They went on to score a further three tries in the first half, leaving the half-time score at 26-0.

The girls really started to enjoy themselves in the second half and they went on to score another six tries, leaving the final score 66-0.

The game was a massively tough challenge, and it doesn’t reflect the effort and skills that the ABC team put in.

U-18s

Finally, the U-18s got their showpiece final under way knowing that two cups were already heading back to Enniskillen.

They also started off very strongly, and put any nerves out of their systems with an early try.

They then pushed on to score another four tries before the half-time whistle.

The Southern Stars team really made the second half a proper battle when they scored three tries, but it wasn’t to be enough as the Enniskillen girls scored a further three tries of their own as they ran out winners in a cracking final.

Great Day

To say that Sunday was a great day for Enniskillen Rugby Club would be a huge understatement.

For the girls teams to win all three of the Ulster Cups is something that will be hard to match; however, knowing the skill and determination of these girls, they will certainly be planning to be there next year again as the sport grows in Ulster.
