Magheraveely 3 Mountjoy Utd 0

Magheraveely will face Enniskillen Rangers in the last four of the Mulhern Cup after they dispatched Mountjoy in the quarter finals.

David Elliott, Eimhin Curran and Joseph Williamson all found the net for the relegation-threatened side, as they put their league concerns behind them to keep their cup run going.

“It was good to get the win and we are looking forward to playing a semi-final,” admitted Magheraveely Manager, Eamon McGlone.

“We have been playing well lately but we just haven’t been getting the results.

“On Saturday we played well and hopefully we can bring that form into our last four league games,” added the Magheraveely boss.

Mountjoy went into the match high on confidence after sealing promotion to the top flight, but there was little to choose between the teams in the first half, with neither side able to find a goal in the first 45 minutes.

Magheraveely started to gain the upper hand in the early stages of the second half, and just three minutes into the second period they grabbed the lead when David Elliott headed home a cross from Matty Irwin.

Two minutes later, Magheraveely took a huge stride towards the semi-final when they doubled their advantage.

Andy Little set Warren Stewart away and he cut back a pass to Curran who made no mistake with his finish, slotting past the keeper.

The home team put the result beyond doubt in the 70th minute when Williamson rose highest for Elliott’s corner, and directed the ball past the keeper to score his team’s third.

Magheraveely continued to press forward in the closing stages with Ronan Stirrat, Andy Little and Gary Elliott having efforts at goal, and although they failed to add to their lead, it was a comfortable conclusion to the tie for the Division One side.
