Fermanagh will contest the Ulster Ladies Junior Championship final after a comfortable victory over Derry in Healy Park, Omagh on Sunday.

The Erne side hit six goals over the course of the game as they cruised into the decider where they will meet Antrim, and Manager James Daly was pleased by his side’s performance.

“We are happy; the girls played well and got the win they deserved,” he said.

“They put in a good shift. The first ten minutes or so they were a bit nervous, but once they settled they were flying.

“Derry were poor, but you can only beat what is put in front of you, and the girls put in a good performance.”

There was only a point separating the sides at the 20-minute mark but Fermanagh took control after that and never looked back in the second half as they continued to pile on the scores.

Daly was also able to use all his substitutions and those who came in impressed the Manager.

“We pushed on from then and at that stage of the game it was about us getting to an Ulster final.

“We had five subs to use, and we used them, and all the girls who came on did well and there is competition there for places.

“That’s what you want – when we played Derry the first day in the league, we coasted in the second half but on Sunday they didn’t do that at all, they really pushed on in the second half,” said Daly.

Fermanagh showed the attacking quality they possess on Sunday as they rattled in six goals and Daly felt that a tweak to the system helped them in that sense, with the Erne girls ruthless in front of the posts.

“We changed the system in the forwards a wee bit last Sunday and that gave Derry something more to think about, and the girls seemed to enjoy a wee bit more freedom.

“When you rotate it around, there is a good varity of who is doing the scoring and who is getting the chances. They went for the jugular and just kept going,” he stated.

Fermanagh lost to Antrim in the semi-final before bouncing back against the Oak Leaf girls on Sunday, and Daly believes that the extra game that they have now played will stand to them.

“Now that we are in the final, having a competitive match, working on different things and getting better at different things – and we are definitely seeing some really good football being played – we would look on it as a positive now that we have got to a final and that game will have benefitted us,” he explained.

And he says that Fermanagh will relish another game against the Saffrons, with this set to be the third meeting between the sides this year, with the score sitting at one win each, to date.

“We were poor the last day against Antrim and we were nervous the last day, and I thought we started nervous also on Sunday, so we will have to get that out of our system, but we will relish another chance at them.

“We beat them in the league and they beat us in the first game in the championship, so it is all to play for. “We feel that the players have the ability to win it and the girls are buzzing that they are going to have another crack of the whip.

“We trained on Tuesday night and the girls are flying. When you get to the final, there is a good buzz about,” added Daly.
