Enniskillen and District Motorcycle Club members were back in action following a few weeks gap in the race schedule. This round of the Ulster Superbike Championship (USBK) was held at Kirkistown Race Circuit and promoted by Belfast and District Motor Club, each class with two races with combined overall race results.

Jamie Lyons, who competes at BSB level sustained a wrist injury and was forced to sit out the last round at Donington, ventured to Kirkistown with his smaller 250cc machine to evaluate his race readiness and found his form taking two wins in the Moto 3 class.

Past Pre-Injection 600cc champion Derek O’Donnell was also back on form taking two first places finishes. In the same class were club members Steven Love who although was unable to catch O’Donnell in race one managed to turn up the heat for race two taking a second-place finish leaving him with an overall third place on the podium.

Club member Michael Carr was mid pack to take an eighth place finish in race one, failing to make it to the start line for race two.

The recently formed Pre—Injection 1000cc is a new addition to race classes and although only a small number of competitors currently participate in this class, club member Ian McGarrigle was happy to take home two first place finishes.

Newtownbutler’s Duane Lewis was setting the pace in the Production Twin class with a second and third place finish, this awarded Lewis his first podium place with an overall second-place trophy. Fintona’s Michael McKernan was the next local rider to cross the line with an eighth and sixth place finish in his two races followed by Malcolm Benson with a reasonable ninth and tenth place result.

In the Superport Cup class it was club members Keith Richardson and Darren Clarke who were both upgraded to race in the ‘Pro’ class. The pair diced and swapped positions throughout both nine lap races with Richardson finishing in sixth place with Clarke following him in seventh in race one, with Clarke crossing the line in sixth for race two and Richardson in seventh.

Michael Carr completed his two supersport Cup B Races in 10th and 12th position.

The superbike Cup third step on the podium was taken by Derek O’Donnell who finished in third place in both races with Lisnaskea man Alan Armstrong finishing in sixth in race one and fourth in race two.

In the Feature superbike races of the day seen local man Aaron Armstrong retire after three laps in race one and finishing in 11th in race two.

It was Carrickfergus man Alistair Seeley who won both feature races and took the King of Kirkistown Title. The next round of USBK will be held at Bishopscourt on July 16-17, 2022.
