Lisnaskea 1-06 Irvinestown 0-15

Irvinestown got off to a impressive start to their Division Two campaign with a six point win away to Lisnaskea.

The winning margin could have been more if Irvinestown had taken a number of goal chances but for trainer Dwayne Carleton it was just good to get the win after going through the Club Players’ Competition without one.

“I felt we were always in control and we moved the ball well,” said Carleton.

“It was good for the boys to get a win under their belt and nice to see the game out.”

Apart from one mark, all of the winner’s scores came from play while for Skea their attack failed to get into any sort of rhythm as they only hit the target once in the opening half.

Ronan Ormsby opened the scoring for Irvinestown to start a scoring streak for his side which also saw points from Jack Largo-Elis, Stephen Sheridan and Gary Maguire.

Maguire had the score of the game with an outrageous point from the sideline off the outside of his boot as Irvinestown took complete control and moved into a 0-08 to no score lead.

Skea did finally manage to get on the scoreboard courtesy of a Justy McDade free to leave seven in it at the break.

Skea hit the first point of the second half but after this Irvinestown took control again.

Maguire pointed while Jack Largo-Elis added three scores throughout the half.

Ormsby and Sheridan were also on target for the winners who also passed up a couple of goal opportunities in this period.

The game was well out of sight for Skea but they had pointed a free from McDade to leave 10 points in it, 0-13 to 0-03.

Three McDade frees and a goal from Adam McKenna made it 0-13 to 1-06 but Ormsby and Josh Largo-Elis rounded of the scoring for Irvinestown to leave it 0-15 to 1-06 at full time.

Next up for Irvinestown is Tempo while Skea play Aghadrumsee.
