Enniskillen 0-15 Kinawley 0-06

Enniskillen bounced back from their loss against Devenish with a resounding nine-point win over a much-depleted Kinawley side at Brewster Park on Friday night.

The win sees Simon Bradley’s Gaels outfit leapfrog the Brian Borus into second place in the Division One table as the race for league final spots hots up.

At the minute Erne Gaels lead the way with 14 points from their seven games played with Enniskillen a point behind the leaders. Kinawley are a further point adrift but have played a game less with the top three all having to play each other yet.

Enniskillen began to take control of this contest in the second quarter and should have been further ahead than the three points that divided the sides at the interval with some wayward shooting keeping Kinawley in touch.

However, the Gaels rattled off six points in a row in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to stretch their advantage out to nine points and they were able to comfortably see it out from there to collect the points on offer.

Enniskillen boss Simon Bradley was pleased with the efforts of his side but feels that it is now crucial for them to back it up again this week when they travel to Roslea.

“We were happy to bounce back after the defeat to Devenish and the players showed a good attitude but we know that we were against a very understrength Kinawley side.

“The key for us though is to now back it up this Friday night against Roslea. I think Roslea are in a false position in the table and have been on the wrong end of some tight games. We are going to have to be fully locked in for this game,” he said.

It was the visitors though who opened the scoring with Tomás Corrigan slotting over inside the first minute.

The opening quarter was slow to get going with only one further point added in this time, Enniskillen levelling things up in the eighth minute through Conor Watson.

It was the home team though who were starting to gain the upperhand with Josh Horan and Brandon Horan to the fore and they created goal chances for Conall Quinn and John Reihill which both ended up going out for 45s while Ethan Beresford had a further chance that he fired wide.

Brandon Horan though edged the Gaels ahead with a point and although Corrigan responded with a point following a good Kinawley break, it was Enniskillen who dictated the play late in the half.

Beresford nudged them back in front and this was followed by points from Paddy Cassidy, whose effort was pushed over by Owen Melanaphy in the Brian Bours goal, and Aaron Nolan to leave it 0-05 to 0-02 at the break.

And Enniskillen raised their game in the second half as they quickly opened up a sizeable cushion between the sides.

John Reihill fisted over the first score of the half before then converting a free and a mark while Beresford also clipped over a free to make it 0-09 to 0-02.

Enniskillen continued to boss matters and Reihill rattled over a fine point from play while James Ferguson also rifled over to push the gap out to nine.

Corrigan accounted for Kinawley’s first point of the half from a free in the 42nd minute and Lorcan McKenna then got his fist to another Corrigan free that had dropped short to make it 0-11 to 0-04.

The Gaels though responded with three points in a row from Watson, Beresford and the best score of the game from Reihill who skipped around a number of opponents before clipping over.

Orin McGovern and McKenna did land late points for Kinawley but these were just consolation points and Conor McShea rounded off the scoring for Enniskillen as they finished up 0-15 to 0-06 victors.
